Fuso bacterium is the infectious agent that is the cause of various infections common in farmed white-tailed deer. For example, lumpy jaw, foot infections, liver abscess, pedicle infection, swollen glands, and pneumonia. If you have a deer with one or more of the above infections, Dr. Jason Brooks Veterinary Diagnostic Lab at Penn State University is where MWBHRA recommends samples be sent. MWBHRA is working with Dr. Brooks to see what strains of Fuso are found at these different infection sites. This will allow for a more effective Fusobacterium vaccine to be produced.

We have a outstanding lineup of speakers and activities for our members and a special rate on hotel rooms. Speakers include our keynote address on “Fawn Health”. We’ll also have speakers from the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Conservation. and the USDA / APHIS.

Registration is $20.00 which will include lunch buffet and afternoon drinks and snacks.

Safari Club International Official Scoring Seminar

MWBHRA will be hosting an Official Measuring Seminar instructed by Safari Club International. It will be a one day seminar, and will be held on Friday, August 7, 2009, the day before the Conference. The original cost is $150.00 a person but MWBHRA will pay $50.00 for current MWBHRA members to attend, making the seminar cost $100.00. The seminar will last one full day consisting of a 3 hours presentation / lecture from 9 am – 12 am followed by a 1 hour lunch. Next there will be  hands on trophy scoring from 1pm – 5 pm.  After attending the one day seminar, you will be required to pass the 100 question exam to become certified as a SCI Official Measurers.  Included in the seminar will be a SCI Official Measuring Kit and a one year subscription to Safari Club International. The seminar  will be held at Holiday Inn Select Executive Center in Columbia, MO. You can pay when you attend but please call Julie to sign up. This is a great opportunity to learn how to score your deer. There will be an emphasize on extremely non-typical whitetails and attendees are welcome to bring in their sheds to incorporate into the seminar. Call today. 573-793-2239 or 573-216-0671.
